5 tips for better skin health
5 tips for better skin health

We all know what we should do to look after our skin, and the usual goals – drink more water, get more sleep or exercise regularly, all sound doable… until party season hits. And whilst that might be over, the after-effects on our skin are longer-lasting. From ways to destress and remove complexion-ageing tension, to the best skin-foods to boost vitality, read on to discover simple steps to get your skin back on track.
Destress your skin
Stressed-out skin is often tense, inflamed and its key functions of protection and regeneration won’t be performing as well as they could. Facialist and skin expert, Hadda Akrim, suggests simple techniques to begin the process of destressing your complexion. “Pinching slowly along each brow with clean hands releases tension and stimulate blood flow and lymph, which can help to eliminate toxins”, she explains. “Also, tapping slowly for at least 15 seconds at key points – at your forehead in-between the brows, at your temples and your chin, will help relax muscles. As you do it, you’ll instantly notice how much tension you are carrying in these points and feel more relaxed. Repeat this often, throughout the day if you can”.
Boost hydration
Your skin is up to 70% water, so hydration is key to its health. Like any detox, this starts with drinking water regularly to maintain hydration level. To support skin further, and lock moisture in, our Restore Cream is packed with hyaluronic acid. Easily absorbed into the upper skin layers, it holds high amounts of water.
Make sleep count
One of the simplest and most effective ways to reset your skin is with sleep. So, if you’ve been burning the candle at both ends, treat your body to quality sleep each night. Throughout the night your skin’s blood flow increases around the body, helping to rebuild collagen effectively and promote cell repair and regeneration. Experts suggest that we need at least 7 hours of sleep every night to allow our bodies the time to rest and repair most effectively.
Support regeneration
It’s important to not over load the skin, and instead focus on allowing it to healthily regenerate and protect itself. That’s our approach with STELLA skincare too. Our formulas don’t disrupt your skin, and are made to support cell regeneration thanks to active, natural-origin extracts including organic birch sap, rock samphire (which harnesses a retinol-like action) and wild dulse algae extract
Feed your skin
Certain foods bring joy to your complexion and over time will boost your skin inside and out. Seek out foods high in vitamin E – an antioxidant which supports cell function and skin health – such as avocados, spinach and sunflower seeds. Turmeric is also a powerful anti-inflammatory, helping to reduce flare ups and redness. Adding foods rich in vitamin A and C will also be welcomed by your skin. Leafy greens and vibrant yellow and orange vegetables tend to be high in vitamin A – great for cell renewal and skin healing, while citrus fruits and tomatoes are bursting with vitamin C, which is known to support collagen synthesis.
