Food to make your skin glow

Food to make your skin glow

They say you are what you eat, and our skin is often the first organ to show what we put into our bodies. Some foods will support your skin’s key functions and boost its glow more than others, so we’re here to help get you better acquainted with these skin-loving super foods.

Green Beauty

Our range is proudly vegan (as well as responsible and cruelty free) but did you know adding more leafy greens to your diet can also provide an intense does of vitamins and minerals that are key for skin health as well? Vegetables like spinach, kale and chard are packed with vitamin A, which helps eliminate toxins and strengthen the skin barrier. A stronger skin barrier is able to ward of inflammation and support a more unified skin tone and glow. Vitamin A also helps to slow down the production of excess sebum, making leafy greens a must-have if you have from acne and want to regulate sebum production.

The polyphenols in cherry blossom are rich in antioxidants, so eating foods containing them (fruit, vegetables, tea, wholegrains, dark chocolate, herbs and spices) will help to protect internal cells from free radical damage, as well as offering the topical equivalent when applied via your daily skincare routine. Glucosides have been shown to counteract the effects of glycation, a collagen-depleting reaction in the skin linked to excess sugar consumption. A go-to ingredient in ancient Japanese skincare rituals, cherry blossom has endured the test of time for a reason. Here’s how to work it into your skin care routine for a more resilient complexion and lit-from-within glow.

Time for Tea

Green tea has been heralded for centuries due to its amazing skin-focused benefits, as a drink and as a topical treatment applied to the skin too. A fresh cup of green tea left to cool can then be applied to the skin to help with inflammation. It contains polyphenols called catechins that help to specifically reduce swelling (the perfect undereye ritual), irritation and redness – making it a trusted skin-soother to relieve sunburnt skin too.

If you sometimes have acne or skin that over-produces sebum, look to green tea to unclog pores and act as an antibacterial treatment that helps to breakdown the bacteria that can cause acne.

Chocolate? Seriously?

Yes, you heard us right! Delight your sweet tooth and your skin with the addition of good quality dark chocolate. Unlike milk chocolate which contains high levels of refined sugar which contributes to the breakdown of skin-firming collagen, dark chocolate is full of antioxidants that help improve blood flow to the skin, keeping it oxygenated whilst removing toxins. It also contains a whole host of vitamins and minerals that nourish the skin and help replace lost moisture – such as Vitamin E, iron and calcium. Just be sure to choose chocolate that is at least 70% cocoa and has been produced in alliance with Fairtrade.

Mini Yet Mighty

Skin-boosting seeds and nuts are one of the easiest ingredients to add into your daily diet, sprinkled over salads, pasta or breakfast. Choose the right ones and you’ll reap the rewards against common issues like inflammation, dry skin and acne. Inflammation-related problems such as dry skin and eczema can be tackled by incorporating vitamin E-rich almonds into your diet. These work to keep skin well-moisturised, inside and out. Chia seeds are essential for those with skin prone to stress-induced acne. Chia seeds are rich in a type of amino acid called tryptophan, which helps the body produce serotonin – a natural chemical that help the body ward off anxiety and reduce stress levels. Lastly, walnuts are the go-to snack for those with dry or mature skin. Packed with vitamin B, which helps to moisturise skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

STELLA Ingredients

Our range is packed with skin-loving ingredients responsibly sourced from mother earth. Each STELLA skincare formula is made with at least 99% natural-origin ingredients. We select our key active ingredients based on their proven efficacy, high nutrient content and their lighter impact on the planet. This is what makes STELLA skincare unique – good for your skin and the planet.

Responsibly extracted from birch trees, birch sap is one of our favourite skincare ingredients, which is why we have blended it into two of our essentials – Reset Cleanser and Restore Cream. Rich in minerals, sugars and vitamin C, it helps hydrate skin and improve visible firmness.

Our award-winning Alter-Care Serum is blended with olive squalane, created from a by-product of olive oil production. Easily absorbed, it smooths and nourished the skin, naturally reinforcing and protecting the skin barrier. It also contains dulse algae extract, selected due to its rich nutrient contents and ability to reduce the appearance of dark circles whilst boosting radiance. Last but not least, it contains organic rock samphire, which is known for its retinol like action. Usually found along the coast, adding rock samphire to your meals will also boost your intake of vitamin C.

Our Restore Cream contains cherry cherry blossom. An ingredient rich in polyphenols and glucosides, they even out skin tone – helping to unearth your inner glow, and strengthen the skin barrier.
